How to care for stainless steel jewelry

Stainless steel is one of the easiest materials to live with. It is strong, it keeps its shape and it handles daily life well, which is why every JAMÈLLE piece is made of it. A few simple habits will keep your earrings, necklaces and bracelets looking their best for longer, especially the gold-tone finishes.

Put your jewelry on last, take it off first

Perfume, hairspray, body lotion and sunscreen are the main enemies of any coloured finish. Get ready first, let your skin dry, then put on your jewelry. In the evening, take it off before you remove your make-up.

Take it off for water, sport and sleep

Remove your pieces before swimming in the sea or in a pool, before a shower or a sauna, before the gym and before going to bed. Salt, chlorine, sweat and friction gradually wear down a gold-tone finish, and fine chains can catch on sheets or clothes.

Clean it gently

  • After wearing, wipe each piece with a soft, dry cloth to remove skin oils and traces of cosmetics.
  • If needed, use a little lukewarm water with a drop of mild soap, then rinse and dry thoroughly with a soft cloth.
  • Avoid abrasive sponges, toothpaste, bleach and jewelry dips: they scratch or strip the finish.

Store each piece on its own

Keep your jewelry in a dry place, away from the bathroom humidity, ideally in its pouch or in a box with separate compartments. Storing pieces separately prevents scratches and stops chains from tangling. Close clasps before putting necklaces and bracelets away.

Silver-tone pieces show the natural colour of the steel. Gold-tone pieces have a gold-tone finish on the steel, and like every coloured finish it can soften with time and friction. Following the tips above is the best way to keep the colour bright, especially on bracelets and hoops that touch your skin all day.

Travelling with your jewelry

Pack each piece in its own pouch or in a small zip bag, and keep them in your hand luggage. Take them off before the beach or the hotel pool, and put them back on in the evening.
